Nostalgia At It's Best

I dunno what it is- probably because there are many different triggers- but there's always what one moment that sends me into a nostalgia overload. I can already say right now that ANYTHING Grinch sends me into Christmas mode. This is why i watch it all the time and why I am never afraid to listen to Christmas music. Year 'round. I love it.

Today I was reading through Tumblr (as I do.) and I saw one picture. One thing that made me freak out and dig into my childhood and start downloading movies like a madman.

Bam. You just got Duffed. Or better yet- McGuired. Lizzie McGuired.

This show ruled my young adulthood. I still remember going to the Friday Night Premiere of The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Even now, just seeing the text as I write it gives me a smile. So here I am awaiting the downloads of Zenon Girl of the 21st Century, Halloweentown, Don't Look Under The Bed, and the crowning glory- Are You Afraid Of The Dark.

Now I don't want to brag- but I have excellent taste in television. Always have. And I can't help but feel like these shows are still so much better than the current waste that Disney Channel is putting out now. It seems like everything is about being famous or getting famous or something of the likes. Every teen star has an album, clothing line, doll, etc- and it's all well and good if they're really trying to build a brand and a positive self imagine campaign (insert Selena Gomez here) but most of it is just their face being plastered all over anything big enough to hold the image by the company that made them famous.

Remember when shows were about being a kid and living life through their eyes? When playing with your friends and figuring out if your crush liked you was more important than making sure you kept your popstar secret and got to the multimillion dollar concert you were performing in on time? Kids today, and I mean ages 3-23 are SO celebrity obsessed. People are so intent on worshiping these pop idols and being famous themselves that they forget what quality is in the process.

Everyone wants to be famous- but nobody wants to achieve anything to get there. I read an amazing article from a 45+ year old guitar player a few years back that really made me respect the artists in our parent's era. They didn't have Youtube or American Idol- they had to go out and earn their record contract on pro talent. Who has to do that anymore? Even actors- whose entire existence depends on their ability to act- are winning roles out of popularity than ability.

I'm sorry- but I was under the impression that High School ended a long time ago and people were supposed to work hard for their lots in life, not make a sex tape with Brandy's younger brother (who really remembers him? honestly.) and then all of a sudden you're all over the place.

Whatever. I'm going back to Rome to hang with Lizzie and Gordo. And furthermore- Raven and Hilary never had to dance on an ice cream pole to get known, Miley.
